GEVA Representation at USAV Annual Meeting

Junior Director Bill Doyle and Officials Chair Tim Countryman who represented GEVA at the USAV annual meetings, with Margie Mara who had just won the Friar Award, USA Volleyball’s highest service award. Margie is retiring later this year, but her service has touched each of us directly or indirectly through her roles of overseeing Region Services as well as Sport Development, Coaching Education and Officials’ Development programs. She is the one we always went to when we needed an answer.

Oleg Chinyayev, Former GEVA Player, Silver Medalist USAV Nationals 45+ Division

GEVA would like to recognize a former GEVA player, Oleg Chinyayev, who won a silver medal in the Men's 45+ Division at this year's USA Volleyball Open National Championships.

Oleg was born in 1970 in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) and started playing volleyball at early age. By age of 16, he joined the USSR National Juniors team.  He played a few seasons in the Top Soviet League in late 80s. He immigrated to the USA by end of the 90s.  He organized a volleyball team from skilled Western European players and started to play local tournaments. From 2002-2007 his team Brooklyn HES played the majority in GEVA tournaments. He was actively playing volleyball and participated in local tournaments for last 17 years.  He put in a lot of effort to reach excellent physical shape after the age 40.

This year he played in the 2017 USA Volleyball Open National Championships with team Canada Fog and won a silver medal in the 45+ division.  It was his first appearance at the National Championships. With the volleyball skills and physical ability that he showed, he was invited to join Team USA 45+ to participate in in the 2017 Global Cup World  Senior Volleyball Championship, being held in Loutraki, Greece in August.
