Conquest Monkey

2012 nationals in Salt Lake City was definitely a success for Conquest Monkey this year! We played 9 matches, 6 of which went to 3 games,3 going to extra points (19-17, 16-14, 16-14). 3 teams from our pool went to the gold bracket and the other 3 went to silver.

In pool play, we had some really great wins. One was against Birdcity Ballers (18-25, 25-22, 16-14), who won the Gold medal. Another was when we switched sides down 0-8 in the 3rd game and came back to win 19-17.

Conquest Monkey finished 13th overall. In the silver bracket, we lost in the semi-finals to a team from our pool that we had beaten just 3 days earlier in pool play. Despite losing, it was one of our best-played matches of the tournament, so at least we know that we gave it our all and went down fighting.

Off the court, Salt Lake City was beautiful. The local restaurants and bars were close by, the gardens and buildings of Temple Square were amazing, and the City Creak “mall” provided shopping and a food court.

Every one of us enjoys going to Nationals every year not just for the competition and the experience of playing against teams from all over the country, but also to watch and support our friends. It was awesome to see the support from other GEVA teams cheering us on, and it was a blast cheering them on as well. The sportsmanship within our pool was also a really awesome thing to experience.
