2012 USA Nationals Article
Creole – Women’s AA
Before the start of the indoor season, the Creole and Whoosh Women’s teams decided to combine forces in the quest for gold in Salt Lake City. As a newly combined team, Creole prepared for nationals by playing in tournaments throughout the Northeast, and bringing home victory in most instances.
Due to an unfortunately low turnout of Women’s AA teams this year, USAV decided to schedule one large pool for round robin that lasted the first three days of the tournament . A 3-0 start on the first day put our team in a good position moving into Thursday, and we pulled off our 4th win with a 2-1 victory during a long first match on Friday morning. The next two matches were tough loses to powerful teams where we never seemed to be able to gain momentum, and we ended pool play with an even tougher loss losing 18-16 in the 3rd game. After three solid days of pool play, Creole moved into Gold playoffs seeded 4th with a 4-3 pool play record.
The first Gold match on Friday afternoon was against the 1st seed, Wasabi, which was a well fought match but Wasabi pulled away to win at the end. Creole was then sent to the Gold loser’s bracket to face the team they lost to in 3 to end pool play. Hungry for revenge, Creole fought point-for-point to split the first two games 24-26 and 28-26. But then in game 3 we began to run out of steam and could not finish for the win, losing 15-10. Thus ended Creole’s run for the gold, and an unsatisfying 4th place finish. It was a disappointing end to the tournament after such a strong start in pool play, but as usual the team is already looking for redemption in 2013!
