Good Friends, Good Times and Volleyball… What more could you ask for?

Preparing for Nationals began in October 2011 with the beginning of the GEVA Friendship season. We had a good 2011-2012 season. We added two new players to our roster and kept ourselves in the top percentage of the standings throughout most of the season. We attended every Women’s B tournament that was scheduled, and throughout the season challenged ourselves as we competed in a couple of BB and BB/A tournaments. Even thought we did not fare well at Regionals, we were ready, willing and able for Salt Lake City.

Adorned with newly designed T-shirts we set out for Salt Lake City in 3 traveling teams. Just as luck would have it, each group had it own unique traveling snafus that included: seat belt delays, missing connecting flights, re-routing and broken down engines. Eventually, we arrived in Utah (better late than never). Fortunately we had the afternoon schedule so we could rest from our challenging traveling excursions.

The next day we ventured to the convention center and put our priorities in order…we purchased our souvenir t-shirts before they were sold out and then we acclimated ourselves to the venue and started thinking about the matches ahead. Later that day, it was time to begin our four day venture of hard playing, watching good volleyball and fun times with our teammates and our many GEVA friends.

We completed pool play and found ourselves in a gold challenge opportunity. Unfortunately we could not secure the win and dropped down to the silver bracket. With injury and sickness plaguing us, we fought hard to extend our play opportunity but fell short of our goal.

We finished out the last day of the tournament, cheering for our GEVA friends who were still fighting in their final matches to stay alive. We rounded out our stay in Salt Lake City dancing up a storm at the player’s party and then most of the team set sail for New Jersey leaving two of us behind to play the second half of the tournament.

What a great way to spend time with friends - playing the sport we love. See you all in Louisville next year.
