Nationals Perspectives

Rage Nationals:

After coming off another solid GEVA season Rage returned to the US Open Volleyball Championships for a fourth year to compete at the BB level. Six players returned to play in Salt Lake City including setter Taras Borysyuk, outside hitter Glen Magalhaes, middle blocker Tom McGuire, middle blocker Christian Schuller, right side hitter Nic Trainor, and libero Sean Whelan. A new addition to the squad this year was Kevin Suchowiecki who played outside hitter.

Rage entered the first day of pool play against a common GEVA rival in Metropolis. Although much success in the past was had against Metropolis, this year, Metropolis took the match in two sets. The second match that day had Rage beating Shinkara White easily in two sets. Day two had three matches in which Rage won one out of three which earned them a birth in the Bronze Medal challenge bracket.

To compete for the Bronze bracket, Rage had to battle past Northshore Blue, then Motorboat, which took three sets. In round 1 of the Bronze medal bracket, Rage banged on in-pool rival Boomers Bangers and earned a spot in the quarterfinals. On the final day, Rage outsmarted Mental Block before finally losing to Shinkara-Prolifik in the semi finals of Bronze. Final standings: 17th place out of 44 teams.

Off the court, the team had a great time with our dedicated fans and supporters, as well as our friends on the Hi-Ya team. We had team dinners nearly every night and scoured beautiful down town Salt Lake City in pursuit of beer with greater alcohol concentration than that of O’Douls.
